In the early 80s Matt Delaney built a’73 Duster into a true 10 second street car with power steering, power brakes, all the factory sheet metal and interior. Although it has been modified several times, he still has that car today. From 1985-1995 he bought and sold several hemi and 6 pack cars. His problem with these cars were that although they were great to look at and talk about, they all rode like a log wagon, were hard to start, did not idle well, and lacked modern suspension for handling on the roads. They just were not fun to drive.

For many years, true “Mopar guys” have historically been somewhat “factory correct” slanted. Being a performance buff as well a Mechanical Engineer by education Matt has always had a slightly different bent. With the advent of the Barrett Jackson phenomena and increased interest in Classic Muscle cars you are seeing more and more modified Mopars. Matt has been somewhat of a maverick, and over the last decade, he has led the Resto-Mod movement in the Mopar world. One difference in him and other Resto-mod builders is that he has always tried to stick to the factory look with subtle differences along with pretty radical performance and handling upgrades.

Some of his "firsts" are:

  • The first ever Fuel injected 528 CI stroker Hemi Cuda.

  • The first Viper V-10 in a classic muscle car- a‘68 Charger that won Peoples Choice and Best Engineered at the Mopar Nationals in 2001.

  • The first IRS and the first aluminum block Hemi in a Classic. This car alsowon “Peoples Choice” at the 2004 Mopar Nationals.

  • The first Classic Mopar with a modern Hemi which was the prototype for thenew 392 stroker by Mopar Performance.

  • The first 1971 Cuda with Air Ride suspension.

Over the past several years, we are very proud that the Mopar Performance division of Daimler Chrysler, has used a number of Matt’s cars to use in promoting their crate engines and performance parts.

Until lately, Matt has always strictly built his cars as a hobby and a passion. In the last couple of years he started getting requests to build cars for other people. Because of that he has now created Delaney Auto Design. If you have interest in what we do, enjoy the site. If you would like a classic Mopar that performs and handles like a modern sports car let us build one for you.
